Crazy Intensity

So, I've said here before that this blog is not meant to be a forum for movie reviews. However, I've also said that this blog is called Genuine because I want to be genuine with my readers. Anyone who genuinely knows me knows that I genuinely have a thing for movies in general, and a thing for analyzing them and talking through them afterward in particular. Therefore, it would only be natural for me to write a post or two about a recent movie I may have seen.

And by a "recent" movie, I mean the one I saw less than an hour ago: I Am Legend, starring Will Smith.
I'll be honest, I went into the film not knowing too much about the plotline or what to expect. Even if I had known, I could not have expected what I saw. In two words, it was crazy intense. I've only seen one other film in which one character carries the entire weight of the film; namely, Castaway starring Tom Hanks. The two films could not be more different. However, the thing which can make or break that kind of film - the lead actor - was chosen wisely in both cases. I honestly think that Will Smith deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance.

Now, I was desparately in need of one of my sister's hands (we tend to grab each other during the scary parts of movies) through basically the whole thing. I made do with putting my hands over my face and crouching into my seat; and there was the occasional "holy cow" (or variation) comment made to Tim, who graciously put up with me sitting next to him. When the movie ended, Tim's sister, Grace, said she needed to find something to bring her heart rate down. I agreed. In fact, I think mine is still racing. Like I said, it was crazy intense.

Overall, I liked the movie. It actually had some pretty interesting themes hitting on what makes human interaction unique, and what happens when man tries to out-think God. However, I would recommend it only to those who can handle some pretty graphic scary images, and those who have a pretty healthly heart. I'm not even joking about that. This movie is not for someone with heart problems. I definitely jumped several times, and I think my heart skipped at least a few beats. But, really, it was a good movie.

In other movie news, the previews before I Am Legend got me pretty excited for the upcoming year. In particular, the next Batman movie, entitled The Dark Knight, and the next in the Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian, are both coming out by next summer. Wahoo!
