Art Project

Some of the military guys I've had the privilege to get to know recently are leaving soon for a couple of months. It was a change in plans for them (I'm discovering that in the military "change of plans" IS the plan; it's their way of life), and so the guys wanted to do a little something special for the wives (who are as much, if not more, affected by the "change of plans" way of life as the guys are) . I had the honor of helping out by putting together several bouquets of flowers to be presented to each of the wives.

I started by finding my new favorite place in San Diego - Wholesale Flowers. Floor to ceiling shelves of vases, urns, ribbon, and all sorts of tools. Glassware in every size and shape imaginable, candles, crystals, gems, rafia, chargers...anything you might like in order to create incredible centerpieces and arrangements. It was a dream. And then there's the separate room (refrigerated, of course) full of fresh cut flowers. Roses, gerber daises, tulips, peonies, and a ton of flowers I don't know the names of, in addition to all sorts of greenery. The possibilities represented in that store are endless.
Limiting myself to the task at hand (which required more than an ounce of will power), I stocked up on enough stems for my ten bouquets, and made my way back home, where I set myself up on the back porch.
One by one, I put together each bouquet, wrapping it in cellophane and tying it off with a bit of rafia.
Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.

There's just something wonderful about fresh flowers, and it was so fun to get to put these together.

I just wish it wasn't because the guys have to leave and the wives have to say goodbye...
