My least favorite things about not having electricity:
- We can't make coffee in the morning.
- We have no fresh food, because the refrigerator isn't cold.
- We can't really cook in general.
- We can't blow-dry our hair. Or straighten it. Or curl it. Did you realize how much a woman's beauty regimen relies on electricity?
- We can't charge our computers or phones. How are we supposed to stay connected?
- We can't make coffee in the morning, so I'm forced to walk to the Kensington Cafe for my java and time with the Lord. I'm thinking of making this a regular thing, actually. Maybe not daily, but it's a great walk, and a darling cafe, the people are awesome, and it makes for a great way to start the morning.
- I have an excuse to go to bed early. No lights, no internet, no tv, nothing to keep me up needlessly. This means I get up early for my walk to the cafe, which works out quite nicely, if you ask me.
- Living by candlelight. Let's just say I have a pretty good supply of candles. When you light enough of them, the room is basked in this sweet glow that just has to put you in a good mood. It's quite romantic, actually. No wonder Darcy and Elizabeth fell in love...

I think that living by candlelight needs to become a regular thing for me, too. Certainly not daily, but every now and again, I'm going to turn off all the lights in the house, and just sit in that romantic glow, enjoying life.
More to come on the new house and Kensington in general. For now, I'll give you one little tidbit. Every evening since we've been here, I've seen families on walks, or couples on walks, or people walking their dogs, and they say "hello" when they pass by. It's the coolest neighborhood!
