Stuck

So, on the way out to Colorado Springs, my flight from Denver to the Springs was cancelled. We had to rent a car to get to The Glen on time, and then we had to figure out how to get our luggage, because they went ahead and sent that on a different flight. It ended up being fine, because there were several of us who rented the car, and United is going to refund us for the cancelled flight.

Now, I'm on the way back from Colorado Springs, and my flight to Denver was delayed because of weather. I missed my connecting flight, and now I'm stuck in DIA for 3 hours until the next flight. I'm doing okay, but I'm pretty wiped out from the week, and I just want to get home and sleep in my own bed.

I got a pizza and drink from Wolfgang Puck's Gourmet Express, and $12 later, at least I'm full. While I was eating dinner, a woman and her husband came up to my table. She said to him, "I'll sit with my new friend" and he said to me "she's harmless". He went off to the bathroom, and she informed me that her husband would feel better if she was with someone, because "after 12 shots of tequila, I'm a little drunk." No kidding? Apparently, they missed their flight as well, and they have to wait 5 hours. She did turn out to be harmless, and even offered me money. I declined as her husband came to get her, and as they stumbled off together, he said over his shoulder, "Don't worry. We'll make it." I hope so.

I had another encounter earlier this week with intoxicated people. On Wednesday night, some of us went to a piano bar to hang out. I'd never been to a piano bar, but I found that the concept is really cool. Two guys sit at two pianos on a stage, and people request songs, and they perform them. These men were incredibly talented; I sat there in awe as they played everything from '80s rock to Disney's The Little Mermaid. Unfortunately, shortly after we got there, a bachelorette party arrived, and things quickly got out of control. Things got pretty disgusting pretty fast, and we left long before we intended to.

I see these people who are clearly looking to empty things to fill them, and my heart just breaks. Among the bachelorette party was the bride, a few 20-something women, a few middle-aged women, and a gay guy. My heart broke individually for each of them. On the car ride home that night, we spent quite a bit of time praying for these people. It was good to just bring them before the Lord, and to think of the empty things to which we ourselves look. I was hit by my own sin, and reminded just how much I need Jesus. Those people need Jesus. The world needs Jesus.

Well, anyway, I've got more stories from the Summit, and I've got pictures, but I have no way to post those just yet. I'll try to do so in the next few days, although I'm going to be a busy woman! Fundraising, my friend's wedding, and preparation for Zambia...I get tired just thinking about it!
