My roommate put in The Princess Bride this afternoon, and as soon as I heard the opening music, I was flooded with memories of my favorite lines and scenes. I had no intention of watching a movie today, but how could I resist one of my favorites of all time? It's a movie that I watched often as an adolescent, and as such, I have the entire movie memorized. I'm not kidding. I can say every line as the movie is playing. In fact, it takes great restraint for me not to do so.
Anyway, I thought in honor of one of the most quotable movies ever made, I'd list some of my favorites...
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is: Never get involved in a land war in Asia. Only slightly less well-known is this: Never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line!"
"Who are you?"
"No one of consequence."
"I must know."
"Get used to disappointment."
"Okay."
"You mocked me once; never do it again!"
"Death cannot stop true love; all it can do is delay it awhile."
"We are men of action; lies do not become us."
"Get back, witch!"
"I'm not a witch, I'm your wife, but after what you just said, I'm not even sure I'm gonna be that anymore!"
"I'm not a witch, I'm your wife, but after what you just said, I'm not even sure I'm gonna be that anymore!"
"Wesley and I are joined by the bonds of love, and you cannot track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds; and you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords."
"It's possible...pig. I might be bluffing. It's conceivable...you miserable vomitous mass."
"Since the invention of the kiss, there have been five kisses that have been rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind."
And...of course..."As you wish."
I could go on and on - like I said, I have the whole thing sitting here in my head - but I won't. It's just such a classic movie, with classic characters, and an unbelievable yet fantastic plot line. And, really, what girl doesn't like the idea of a man who is willing to go through danger, treachery, torture, and even a day of being mostly dead in pursuit of his true love?
