The Accident

This weekend's camping trip turned out to be quite crazy, and kind of stressful for me. On our way up to Sedona, one of our student's cars got into an accident, and two students had to be life-flighted to a hospital in Phoenix. Both of them sustained some pretty bad injuries, but, praise God, none life-threatening. If you think of it, pray with me that Erin and Rich would heal quickly and completely. The two other students in the car were able to walk away with relatively minor bruising, and a bit of emotional strain. I'm continuing to pray for them as well. The neat thing which came from all of this was to see the rest of the students come together and rallying around their friends, lifting them up in prayer, offering hugs, and some even providing some well-timed comedic relief. It was really cool to see the Body of Christ functioning as I think God intends.

We were still able to have a lot of fun, playing games, roasting marshmallows, and singing around the fire. Most students went to Slide Rock for the day on Sunday, while I went with a smaller group into Sedona to enjoy a coffee shop, a little ice cream and the beautiful scenery. I was fairly tired throughout the weekend, and I'm finding myself a bit emotionally fried, but it seems most of the students really enjoyed themselves. I'm so grateful that God doesn't actually need me to be at 100% to make the trip a success.

I didn't take as many pictures as I thought I would, and it turns out that not many of the ones I took are very good. So, you'll just have to imagine 60 people congregating around two fire pits, surrounded by towering green pine trees, and blanketed by a black sky with a million sparkling stars. Now imagine you see something small and white shooting across the sky. Was it a shooting star? No, of course not. It was a marshmallow, and it just barely missed your head. The ensuing marshmallow war results in treachery and ambush, nobility and valiance. Is this really my job?

Krista, you have such a beautiful way with words. I could totally picture your scene around the campfire. I laughed at the thought of marshmallows being tossed around. Glad your friends are alright... thanks for sharing.
