Believe it or not, I am quirky. Actually, I'm pretty sure you all believe it. I'm pretty sure you've all seen the peculiar ways that I can do things. But, I recently caught myself in some quirky behavior I'd like to share with you.
I am home for the summer. My party-throwing days have come to a lull (come on 4th of July!), and I haven't had a chance to entertain at my home quite like I'm used to. I haven't had the same opportunities to plan and arrange food and decorations. Believe me, I've loved having the house to myself during the days, and am enjoying the freedom to take naps, read books, and do things around the house. So, I'm not complaining that I haven't been able to throw parties, I'm merely stating a fact.
But, the other day, I was making lunch for myself, and (gosh darn it, I couldn't help it!) this is what I did:
It just sort of happened. I was cutting up the red pepper into slices and laid them on the plate just as you see them, not really thinking about it. Then I sliced the mozzarella, and laid those down. All of a sudden, I saw a spiral. So, I just HAD to roll my turkey so it matched. And I just HAD to slice the avocado just so and lay them all facing the same way. And something HAD to go in the middle for it to be at all aesthetically pleasing, so I cut up a nectarine.
Would it have been the same food if it had haphazardly been thrown on the plate? Would I have gotten the same nutritional value from it? Would it have had the same delicious taste? Of course it would. But, for some reason, I enjoy food that much more when it's pretty. Call me quirky.
