Why, you might ask, would I do such a thing? First, because it was a good excuse to hang out with my sister. Second, because I have three friends who are getting married in the next seven months who have asked me for ideas and help in planning their weddings. Third, you couldn't possible imagine how many decorating ideas I got just from walking through the booths. Fourth, I got to sign up to win some free stuff - maybe I will, maybe I won't, but it's worth a shot. And, fifth, who doesn't like to taste-test wedding cake? (There was plenty to be tasted. My favorite - the chocolate with chocolate mousse from Bamboo Bakery.)
I'll admit, the whole thing was kind of overwhelming. There are 600 vendors who are just dying to get your attention and convince you why their [cake, catering, flowers, invitations, photography, venue, honeymoon spots, weight-loss program, dentistry, mortgage lending...you pick] is the best. I was actually kind of glad not to be an actual bride who is trying to make all those decisions. As it was, Jamie and I made our way through the aisles, turning down all the venues and photographers, but paying particular attention to the caterers and invitations. Oh, and I signed my friends up for about six free honeymoons (I hope they win!!). I also signed up for a wine basket from a winery and a spa kit from Arbonne and a gift certificate from Pampered Chef - I tell you what, they had EVERYTHING there! It was a ton of fun.
After about an hour in, the sensory overload was a bit much, so we had to stop at the end of each aisle to catch our breath. After a couple of hours, we started counting down the aisles left. "Only six more, Jame, we can do it!" With a bag that ended up being about 30 pounds (wedding magazines are heavy!!), we finally decided that it wasn't worth it to try to finish, so we made our way to the last aisle and the huge EXIT sign hanging over it. Little did we know that the "exit" was actually a whole other room full of vendors which led you to the real exit and the out of doors. After one last honeymoon trip entry, we bolted for the door, and finally felt able to breathe.
What an experience! Now, to sort through all the advertisements and coupons for the ones that are actually relevant...
